In this project
Muir School                   studies local                environmental               concerns and                 promotes
awareness and
action.  Students answer the GSH questions,

  • "How can we think globally and act locally?
  • How can we make the best use of our limited resources?
  • What projects are addressing local issues in San Diego today?
  • What more needs to be done?
  • What are the futures of our environment--possible, probable, preventable, and preferred?"

"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe."

John Muir and His Legacy
John Muir was born in 1838.  He was a conservationist, writer, nationalist, and a wilderness explorer.  He is known as one of California’s most important historical personalities.  His writings had soon contributed to the creation of Grand Canyon National Parks, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, Yosemite, and the Petrified Forest.
Because of Muir’s influence with President Roosevelt, Yosemite became a national park; it was the first national park.  Then it “set the stage” for other parks, and saving other wilderness areas. by Shauna, gr. 11

History of John Muir School
John Muir School was first established in 1974 with an idea in mind to have a different school; somewhere students could grow as individuals. From then to now many changes have been eminent.  Back in the 70’s the school courses were not formal. Even when it came to grading, it was “pass or fail” according to Pat Woods, a former teacher at Muir.  by April, gr. 10
